Laughable Day
So I’m on day three of my really, really busy week of starting my new job and supervising a university student (5 days/week, for 5 weeks). All said—it’s been busy but not bad. So I came home tonight after work, ready to relax and plan tomrorow’s dinner that we’re (I’m) cooking for the neighbors. Steps away from my flat begins the awesome chain of events.
- No keys—they’re inside the flat.
- No phone—also inside the flat.
- Neighbor with spare key—not home.
- Other neighbor (Peg, 90 years old) invites me in to use her phone. She’s so cute and still has a rotary phone which I painstakingly use to dial Rob’s 11 digit number. No answer. (Rob laters calls the number back and Peg does not make the connection—tells him he has the wrong number.)
- Go to library to use free computers—all taken.
- Go to grocery store to use a pay phone… A PAY PHONE! Catch Rob but he can’t contact neighbors with keys. He won’t be home until 9:30.
- Go to pub. Sit alone and eat dinner, drink wine, read book. Pub plays the song “All By Myself” (for me?) and all I can do is giggle.
